The Seventh Gate said by some to have been constructed by Maeglin, after Morgoth's victory in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. According to legend, the gate was made of steel and seven storeys high.

Notes

1

These dates assume that the Gate was built immediately after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and was destroyed during the sack of Gondolin thirty-nine years later. These dates are based on circumstantial evidence, and it should be noted that they are speculative in nature. The Gate may have taken several years to complete, and (given that Morgoth's forces did not break through the Seven Gates) it may conceivably have survived the Fall of Gondolin intact.
