Lightfoot Family

A family of the Shire-hobbits

A little-known family of the Shire. Its only recorded member was Nina Lightfoot, who married into the Bolger family when she wed Theobald Bolger. Through this marriage, the Lightfoots became remotely connected to the Bagginses, because Nina's son Wilibald married Prisca Baggins.

'Lightfoot' is in fact a real family name, meaning simply 'nimble-footed'. Though the origins of the name within the Shire are not explained, it seems reasonable to assume that it carried a similar meaning.

Notes

1

We have very little information about Nina Lightfoot's dates, but we do know that her husband Theobald Bolger was born in III 2861, so presumably Nina was born at a similar time. The dates shown above assume that she had a typical Hobbit lifespan of about one hundred years.
