A thorned plant with white flowers, said to resemble modern gorse, that was known to grow in West Beleriand, and perhaps farther afield. At the very least, it was found on the slopes of the hill of Amon Rûdh. Its Elvish name was aeglos, a name that it shared with the fabled Spear of Gil-galad, though whether there was a direct relationship between the two names is not known.
