Agathurush

At the time the Númenóreans returned to Middle-earth in the Second Age, the River Gwathló followed a course through a densely forested landscape. The woodlands along its banks became the chief source of timber for Númenor. In Númenor itself the Elvish river-name Gwathló (meaning 'shaded river from the fen') was translated into the native Adûnaic language as Agathurush. The logging operations of the Númenóreans ultimately resulted in the lands north and south of the river becoming a wide treeless expanse.
