Blood of Stone

The name given to a low-growing plant with deep red flowers that grew in cracks and crevices of stone. The name is translated from Elvish seregon, referring to the deep red colour of the plant's blooms and its ability to grow in stony environments. These flowers were the only ones able to flourish on the rocky peak of Amon Rûdh in Beleriand, so that when they were in bloom, the summit of that hill turned blood-red. As events unfolded, this was seen to be a fitting colour for the hill: after Mím betrayed Túrin and his followers, the Orcs slaughtered the Men of Dor-Cúarthol who dwelt in Bar-en-Danwedh in the heights of Amon Rûdh.
