CottarThe ancestor of the Cotton familyThe oldest known member of the Cotton family, though in fact the name 'Cotton' would not appear until the time of his grandson Holman Cotton. Cottar was born in the year 1220 by the Shire-reckoning, that is some two centuries before the War of the Ring. He had two sons, Cotman and Carl. Cotman married Rose, the daughter of Holman the greenhanded, and so began a long association between Cottar's descendants and Holman's. Notes
