The day of the predicted end of the world of Arda, on which the Last Battle will be fought between the Valar and Morgoth. Prophecies of this final battle - the Dagor Dagorath - are unclear, but some claim that Túrin will return to fight for the forces of Manwë. According to other traditions, Ar-Pharazôn and his armies remain imprisoned in the Caves of the Forgotten until the Day of Doom, when they will also join the battle (presumably on the side of the Dark Lord). After the Day of Doom, the world will be unmade. After that, events are uncertain, but it is suggested that it will be somehow recreated, perhaps through the agency of the Second Music of the Ainur.

In this context, 'doom' does not imply the terrible ending as modern usage might suggest (indeed, the Day of Doom was prophesied to lead to the final defeat of Melkor and the remaking of Arda). In its older sense the word simply meant a 'judgement', in this case referring to the settled and inevitable fate of Arda and its people.
