The name for a meeting of the Ents of Fangorn Forest, said to be a rare occasion in the later days of the Third Age. The Moot was held by tradition at a dell in the Forest known as Derndingle.
Notes
1 |
We have little information about how often Entmoots met, apart from Treebeard's comment that they happened less frequently in the later Third Age than they had in earlier times. So we can be sure that Entmoots were a tradition dating far back into the past, but exactly how often they took place remains something of a mystery. Given the extraordinary longevity of the Ents, it's not inconceivable that centuries might have passed between gatherings of this kind.

'Entmoot' is a word in the Common Tongue, apparently translated from the Entish by Treebeard for the convenience of Merry and Pippin. 'Moot' here shares an etymological origin with modern 'meet', and was also seen in the name of a similar assembly in the Shire, known as the 'Shire-moot'.
