GreycloakA descriptive surname of Elu ThingolA title of Elwë (later Elu) lord of the Teleri, sometimes spelt in the hyphenated form 'Grey-cloak'. The original Quenya form was Sindacollo (from sinda, 'grey', and collo 'cloak' or 'mantle'), but this became Singollo and ultimately, as the language of Elwë's people mutated to become Sindarin, Thingol. Thus Elu Thingol of Doriath got his name, and from his grey cloak his people were named, too: the Sindar or Grey-elves.
