A title for the monstrous spider known as Shelob. It was used by the Orcs, and especially those who held the Tower of Cirith Ungol that stood near her lair in the Mountains of Shadow. Those Orcs held no allegiance with the spider, but rather feared her and avoided her when they could, but they respected the lurking danger she represented. Nonetheless they needed at times to pass through the tunnels of Shelob's maze-like lair, and indeed had their own tunnel, blocked against the spider's entry, that ran from beneath their tower into the main lair complex.

Living in such close proximity to Her Ladyship, the Orcs had learned much of her ways. They knew of her 'Sneak', Gollum, who had somehow built an alliance of sorts with Shelob. They also knew of her various poisons, as their captain Shagrat explained to another Orc less familiar with the spider, Gorbag of Minas Morgul. When she hunted, Shelob would use a poison that merely disabled her prey, a fate some of the Orcs had suffered themselves, as did Frodo Baggins when he attempted to pass through Cirith Ungol.
