King of the NúmenóreansElros Tar-Minyatur and his royal descendantsA rare form of the title more usually given as simply 'King of Númenor', the hereditary ruler of the ancient and powerful Isle of Númenor in the Great Sea. The first King of the Númenóreans was Elros, brother of Elrond, who became King under the name Tar-Minyatur. The Men of the line of Kings had exceptionally long lives even for the Dúnedain - Elros Tar-Minyatur lived to the age of five hundred - but they were not immortal, and the Kingship passed on through the generations. The earlier generations of the Kings were succeeded by their sons only. Tar-Aldarion the sixth King had a single child, a daughter, and so he caused the laws of succession to be changed to allow her to inherit the throne. Tar-Ancalimë thus became the first Ruling Queen, and two others followed her through the long history of Númenor. In all there were twenty-five Rulers of the Númenóreans: twenty-two Kings and three Queens. The last of these was Ar-Pharazôn, who was seduced by Sauron into rebellion against the Valar. Going so far as to launch an armada against Aman itself, his actions brought about the Downfall of Númenor and the end of the line of Kings.
