Linhir, 'fair stream', originally referred to the short river where the combined waters of Gilrain and Serni flowed from their confluence to the Sea (this seems to have been an alternative or informal name, since the same stream is elsewhere explicitly named as an extension of the Serni). As a haven grew up at the point where this stream began, the name Linhir transferred itself onto that settlement.
