Longholes FamilyA family of the Bree-hobbitsA family name found among the Hobbits of Bree. The name is given as part of a list of typical Bree-hobbit names, but beyond that we are given no detail, other than the fact that some of the family names on this list were also used in the Shire. It appears to relate to the preference of Hobbits for digging and living in holes or tunnels (other examples from the same list include Sandheaver and Tunnelly). Given that this name describes specifically long holes, the implication seems to be that these Hobbits - or their ancestors - dwelt in particularly long or deep Hobbit-holes.
