Minto Burrows

The youngest child of Milo Burrows

A descendant of the Masters of Buckland who could trace his ancestry back to Gorbadoc Brandybuck, Minto was the youngest of the four children of Milo Burrows and Peony Baggins. Little is known of his life, and it is even slightly unclear whether or not he attended Bilbo Baggins' famous Birthday Party.1

Notes

1

There is no doubt that Minto's parents, and his siblings Mosco, Moro and Myrtle, all attended the party. The names of these Hobbits are all underlined in their family tree, signifying that that they were invited. In many earlier editions of The Lord of the Rings, however, Minto's name stands out as lacking the same underlining shared by the rest of his family. On that basis, at the age of five, we might take it that he as simply too young to take part.

However, in the 1994 edition of the book, the family tree is amended, and Minto's name is now underlined. The reason for the change is not specifically explained, but it presumably represents a correction to an omitted underline in the earlier editions. From this edition onward, then, young Minto did attend the Birthday Party with his family.
