One of the many titles given to the greatest of the nine Nazgûl. His original name is never recorded, and instead he is most commonly known as the Lord of the Nazgûl or the Witch-king of Angmar. His title 'Morgul-lord' refers to his rule over Minas Morgul on the borders of Mordor. It was there that he brought the line of the Kings of Gondor to an end when he engineered the capture of King Eärnil. Centuries later, as the War of the Ring began, Sauron sent the Morgul-lord with his Black Riders to search for the Ring itself. Later, the Lord of the Nazgûl fought in the Battle of the Pelennor, where he was finally overcome by Meriadoc Brandybuck and Éowyn of Rohan.
