Northerland

The northern regions of Middle-earth

A general term that refers to the northern reaches of Middle-earth. It does not appear to have a close definition, but instead reflects a traveller's own point of view. For instance, for Boromir venturing northward from Gondor in the south, all points north of the River Greyflood were considered 'Northerland'. However, in other contexts the word is more specific, referring to the Forodwaith, a distant and icy land hundreds of miles further north than the Greyflood.
