Reeds

A tall type of grass found particularly in wetland regions, and common along rivers and throughout marshlands in most parts of Middle-earth. In Beleriand they grew from Nevrast in the north down Sirion to its Mouths, while in later ages they were found as far north as the Shire, down Anduin and its tributaries into its southern stretches. They were notably associated with the Gladden River, where the people of Hobbit-kind who at one time lived nearby would use them as a building material for their boats.
