Silver-steel

A name for mithril

One of several Mannish names for the extraordinary shimmering metal known in Elvish as mithril. A malleable and workable metal, when polished it shone like silver, but it was nonetheless stronger than the strongest steel - hence the name 'silver-steel'. It had other names in the tongues of Men, all alluding to its silvery nature: some called it true-silver, while others named it Moria-silver after the Mines of Moria, the only place in Middle-earth where this rare metal could be found.
