Dates
The Elves travelled into the West in ancient times during the Years of the Trees, but the term 'Twilight' has particular resonance with the ending of the Elves' time in Middle-earth with the coming of the Dominion of Men with the Fourth Age
Location
Race
Meaning
Used in association with the West, the direction of the sunset, to connect the Undying Lands that lay there with the fading of the Elves in Middle-earth
Other names
On a literal level, 'Twilight' might be taken as a reference to Aman in the West, and especially to Elvenhome, the land of the Elves beyond the Great Sea

The TwilightThe final fate of the ElvesA term used in the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen in apparent reference to the Blessed Realm in the West. It is used in explicit opposition to the Shadow (the Shadow of Sauron lay in the East, while the Twilight lay in the West of the World). Arwen described the Twilight as the final home of her people the Elves, before renouncing her immortality to remain with Aragorn in Middle-earth. The term may also have a second layer of more poetic meaning, connected with the fading of the Elves in Middle-earth as the Dominion of Men became established there. It may even have a third layer, as Arwen was known as the Evenstar of her people, a reference to the Evening Star, Venus (or Eärendil) that emerges in the Twilight as the Sun sets.
