ArahaelThe second Chieftain of the DúnedainArahael was the first of Isildur's Heirs to be born after the destruction of the North-kingdom. His father Aranarth therefore gave him over to Elrond, to be fostered in Rivendell, and this became the custom of the Chieftains of the North. Some decades before Arahael assumed the leadership of his people, Gandalf had gone to Dol Guldur and driven its master into the east. The Witch-king, who had ravaged the realm of Arahael's grandfather Arvedui two generations before, was far to the south in Minas Morgul. So, Arahael led the Dúnedain during the time known as the Watchful Peace, and was untroubled by war. Arahael served as Chieftain of the Dúnedain for seventy-one years. He was succeeded by his son Aranuir. Notes
