House of the Lords of AndúniëThe line of descent of ElendilA noble house descended from Silmariën, the eldest child - a daughter - of King Tar-Elendil of Númenor. By the laws of Númenor as they then stood, a woman could not inherit the throne (the laws were later changed, and by that later law the Lords of Andúnië would have been rightful heirs to the Kingship). Silmariën married Elatan of Andúnië, and their son was Valandil, who became the first of the Lords of Andúnië; his descendants formed a line of eighteen further Lords. The last of this line was Elendil, who led his sons away from Númenor in time to escape its Downfall, and founded the kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor in Middle-earth.
