Peace of Arda

The time of the Captivity of Melkor

In the great Battle of the Powers in the distant past of the world, the Valar captured Melkor and imprisoned him. With Melkor secured in the Halls of Mandos, the world dwelt in peace for three ages. This was the time when the Eldar made the Great Journey into the West, and those that completed the journey lived in bliss in the light of the Two Trees, while Middle-earth was lit by the light of the stars alone. The Peace of Arda came to a close soon after Melkor's release, when he destroyed the Two Trees and fled back into Middle-earth to once again become a Dark Lord.
