Town HoleThe town smial of Michel DelvingA hall tunnelled into the chalky cliffs of the White Downs in Michel Delving, the chief township of the Shire. It was from here that the Shire's Mayoral business was conducted, at least until the Town Hole's roof collapsed, covering Mayor Will Whitfoot with white chalk powder (and thus gaining him the nickname of 'Flourdumpling'). We don't know exactly when this occurred, but the event was still a recent memory at the time of the War of the Ring. Presumably the collapsed hole was repaired, or some other suitable building or Hobbit-hole took over its role as the Town Hole of the Shire. See also...Indexes: About this entry:
