After the accidental death of Saeros at his hands, Tûrin fled the land of Doriath where he had been brought up, and lived for a time among a band of outlaws beyond its western borders. Though Túrin had merely defended himself against Saeros, he considered himself banished from Doriath for slaying the Elf. Túrin therefore took a new name among the outlaws, Neithan, meaning 'The Wronged'. Notes
