Bruno Bracegirdle

The brother of Lobelia Sackville-Baggins

The elder child and only son of Blanco Bracegirdle and Primrose Boffin, Bruno was thus the brother of Lobelia Sackville-Baggins. He was born just two years after the Fell Winter, probably at the Bracegirdle family seat of Hardbottle. He had two children, Hugo and Hilda, and late in his life he attended Bilbo Baggins' Birthday Party with them. He lived on for another nine years after that famous event, and died at the age of ninety-seven.

Notes

1

The modern name Bruno can has two possible origins, each deriving from Germanic: either brunna, 'armour' or brun 'brown'. We have no way to know which of these Tolkien intended (if indeed he intended either), but given that Bruno's father's name was Blanco (meaning 'white' or 'pale grey') then the colour association of 'brown' would seem to be the better fit.
