The children of the Elves were said to closely resemble those of Men, to the extent that, especially in their early years, the two races could scarely be distinguished from one another. The mind of an Elf-child, however, matured quickly, and by the end of their first year, most Elves could talk, walk, and even dance.

Due to their long lives, though, the children of the Elves grew more slowly than those of Men, especially after their third year. It was said that an Elf would not come to full adulthood before their fiftieth year, and in some cases as long as a century would pass before an Elf-child grew into an adult Elf.
