High Eldarin

The Quenya of the Blessed Realm

The High-elven language spoken most prominently by the Elves of Aman, otherwise known as Quenya or Valinorean. It was little spoken in Middle-earth, where Sindarin was the most common Elvish language, though High Eldarin was esteemed as an ancient tongue and preserved by scholars in both Númenor and Middle-earth. It was used in formal naming, so for example the island kingdom usually known by the Sindarin name Númenor also had a High Eldarin form of its name: Númenórë.
