Tar-Alcarin

The son of Tar-Vanimeldë

Rulers of Númenor

The son and heir of Tar-Vanimeldë, the third Ruling Queen of Númenor. He should have succeeded his mother, but instead his father Herucalmo withheld the Sceptre from his son, and ruled as Tar-Anducal for twenty years before his own death. Thereupon Tar-Alcarin took up his rightful Kingship, and ruled for a further eighty years. He was succeeded by his own son, Tar-Calmacil.

Notes

1

Tar-Alcarin should legally have become King of Númenor on the death of his mother Queen Tar-Vanimeldë in II 2637. At that time, however, the former Queen's consort Herucalmo seized the Sceptre and ruled as Tar-Anducal - against custom and law - for the next twenty years. It was only on the death of Tar-Anducal in II 2657 that Tar-Alcarin was able to take up the Sceptre and rule Númenor in his own name.
