Stoningland

A name of Gondor

Map of Stoningland (Gondor)
Gondor, the Stoningland of the Rohirrim
Gondor, the Stoningland of the Rohirrim

The name of the land of Gondor in the language of the Rohirrim. It is in fact a direct translation of the Elvish Gondor, which means 'Stone-land' (in the sense of a land of people who build in stone). 'Stoningland' is slightly modernised from the actual form that would have been used in Rohan, whose people would have actually used the phrase Stáning-land.
