A name used for the glistening Tower of Ecthelion at the peak of Minas Tirith, emphasising its opposition to Sauron's Dark Tower of Barad-dûr.

In his extended index to The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien lists the White Tower as also being known as the Tower of Denethor. That name would necessarily have been used only during Denethor's rule, in the last years of the Third Age. It is not recorded - at least as a proper name - in the text of The Lord of the Rings itself. |
